What We Do
A Century of Service:
The Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja

Founded in 1928, the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur emerged as a beacon of unity amidst Kuala Lumpur's diverse cultural landscape. With a core group of 25 members, the club quickly grew to over 80, reflecting a harmonious blend of European and Asian influences. The early days of the club were marked by a strong commitment to service and camaraderie. Weekly Rotary Lunches, a tradition that continues to this day, were held at the historic Bok House (now the W Kuala Lumpur Hotel).

Pioneering figures like Sir Andrew Caldecott and Sir Leonard David Gammans led the club, fostering a vibrant community that included prominent individuals such as the Storch brothers, Raja Tun Uda, Choo Kia Peng, Loke Choe Thye, Mungo Park, and Arumugam Viswalingam. These individuals, drawn to Rotary's principles of service above self, played a crucial role in shaping the club's legacy

30th June 2025. Over lunch at Galaxy Hall, surrounded by warm conversation and familiar faces, members of the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja gathered to mark a moment of significance — the final day of the Rotary Year 2024/25, and the dawn of a new chapter. It wasn’t just a meal. It was a quiet celebration. A heartfelt pause to honour both continuity and change. At the heart of the occasion stood Dato’ Dr. Prakash Rao, incoming President of RCKLDiRaja — a man stepping forward with wisdom, clarity, and a deep-rooted commitment to service. As he was called to the stage, the room responded with more than applause — there was respect, pride, and a shared sense of promise. He was joined by Assistant Governor Ajit Johl, a pillar of leadership whose steady presence has helped guide the club and district alike. Together, they stood with District Governor Edward, symbolising the passing of the Rotary torch — not as an ending, but as a powerful continuation. The gathering was simple, yet soulful. Laughter was shared, memories recalled, and hopes for the year ahead quietly spoken across tables. As the Rotary wheel prepares to turn once more, and Dato’ Dr. Prakash steps fully into his presidency, the spirit of RCKLDiRaja is alive and rising — fuelled by unity, vision, and the unwavering belief that service above self still changes lives.
