What We Do
A Century of Service:
The Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja

Founded in 1928, the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur emerged as a beacon of unity amidst Kuala Lumpur's diverse cultural landscape. With a core group of 25 members, the club quickly grew to over 80, reflecting a harmonious blend of European and Asian influences. The early days of the club were marked by a strong commitment to service and camaraderie. Weekly Rotary Lunches, a tradition that continues to this day, were held at the historic Bok House (now the W Kuala Lumpur Hotel).

Pioneering figures like Sir Andrew Caldecott and Sir Leonard David Gammans led the club, fostering a vibrant community that included prominent individuals such as the Storch brothers, Raja Tun Uda, Choo Kia Peng, Loke Choe Thye, Mungo Park, and Arumugam Viswalingam. These individuals, drawn to Rotary's principles of service above self, played a crucial role in shaping the club's legacy

From Malaysia’s Oldest Rotary Club — On This Malaysia Day This Malaysia Day, we are deeply moved by the voices of those whose vision may be limited, but whose sight of the heart is limitless. In this beautiful video by the District Action Group on Blindness Prevention, our visually impaired friends remind us that Malaysia is, at its core, a tapestry of colours — seen not just with the eyes, but felt through the soul. When someone who cannot see speaks of Malaysia as the “best,” we are reminded that the true beauty of our nation is not in monuments or skylines, but in our diversity, our compassion, and our shared humanity. As the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja — Malaysia’s oldest Rotary Club — we honour these voices and stories. They remind us of our responsibility: to continue building a nation where no one is left behind, where every voice matters, and where service above self lights the way forward. To all Rotarians across District 3300, and to all Malaysians, may this Malaysia Day renew our gratitude, deepen our unity, and inspire us to keep serving with love. Selamat Hari Malaysia. 🇲🇾

🎥✨ Before the lights dimmed and the music swelled for our 98th Installation Dinner, the story was already unfolding in quiet, powerful moments… First, the signing ceremony between our sister clubs — a renewal of promises across borders, a pledge to continue working hand-in-hand for causes greater than ourselves. The ink on that paper was more than formality; it was a symbol of unity, trust, and Rotary friendship that transcends nations. 🌍🤝 Then came the gentle scenes of fellowship — President Dato’ Dr. Prakash Rao, moving through the hall, welcoming guests with warmth, thanking each one personally, pausing with a smile to greet the Guest of Honour, YAM Tunku Dato’ Seri Utama Naquiyuddin ibni Almarhum Tuanku Ja’afar, alongside our District Governor Edward Khoo. Like the opening chapter of a film, these moments set the tone: a gathering not just of ceremony, but of heart. You could feel it in the air — the anticipation, the pride, the quiet joy of old friends reuniting and new bonds being formed. ✨ This was Part 1. Next, the walk-in of the Board of Directors, the speeches that carried vision and resolve, and finally, the Presidential Project — the heart of the night. Each chapter unfolding like scenes in a story we will remember for years to come.

✨ Before the spotlight, before the speeches, before the grand march of the Installation Dinner began — there was this quiet moment. Our new President, Dato’ Dr. Prakash Rao, gently adjusting his son’s suit and tie. A simple gesture, yet it speaks volumes. It reminds us that behind every leader is a father, a family man, someone whose values of care and responsibility begin at home. These are the same values that guide him now as he takes the helm of Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja for RY2025/26. As we celebrated our 98th Installation, this tender moment captured what Rotary is truly about — service rooted in love, leadership anchored in family, and the belief that when we nurture the next generation, we build a stronger tomorrow. ❤️
