Living Aids Fund: For Hearing Aid Donations with Siemens Malaysia

In Rotary Year 2006-07, our Club raised about RM633,000 for this fund to provide living aids to disabled, needy children. While we have provided many donations of learning and sight aids, the present focus for the balance of this fund is now on hearing aids for the very young.

PP Chan Kam Fatt is still ably helming this gigantic multi-year effort in coordination with Rotarian Tan Sri Rainer Althoff of Siemens Malaysia. They both work closely with various Ministries like MOSTI and Ministry of Health to select the right target segments, geographies and hospitals to seek out appropriate recipients of Siemens latest high-tech hearing aids.

This RY2008-09 has seen several donation events organized by PP Chan including one during a Club lunch on 12th November 2008. The latest was in May 2009 at Sountex Klang where 12 specially selected children were fitted with the hearing aids. Our Rotarians again lent support to attend this donation event where President Francis, PP Chan, Rtn T.S. Rainer, PP David Teh and Rtn Gerald appeared in The Star “Metro” write-up of 20th May 2009.

It is estimated that the Living Aids Fund has a balance of RM40,000 (data-point from President Francis) which should see usage for next RY2009-10. This effort will continue to be driven by PP Chan Kam Fatt whose unyielding passion to run complex multi-year projects is indeed a leading example to all Rotarians.
