Hand’s-On Charity Efforts: For 3 Underprivileged Children’s Parties

Our Rotary Club is proud to share that we organized parties for children from 3 underprivileged children’s homes (Ti-Ratana, House of Joy, PPKKCTM) in March to May 2009. Our Rotarians came in support, bringing their own children and grandchildren. We proved that we can do charity with our hands and hearts as Rotarians helped to serve food and drinks, plus engage in playtime with the needy children.

First off was the jointly organized party with the Palace of the Golden Horses (PGH) at the hotel’s premises in Mines Wonderland. This party was for 40 underprivileged kids from Ti-Ratana and held on 8th March 2009. PP Stuart Pack and his team at PGH did a great job with their lovely venue, scrumptious food, great entertainment (magician, Wa-Wa boat ride, etc.). The children returned the efforts with a medley of dances and songs which they performed whole-heartedly. The only RC KL DiRaja expense was for RM200 to fund transport on this Sunday for the children. The party was well attended by Pres.Francis, PE D.Rizal, PP Stuart, Rtn D.Adenan, Rtn Richard Barrett, Rtn Tony Lu, Rtn Andy and several others (apologies if your name is inadvertently left out). Additionally, we were ably assisted by the ladies from Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur led by President Linda Lim and PP Foong Pack – kudos to the ladies for their efforts to rush from another event to our party.

Then RC KL DiRaja worked with Ms Carol Lee, founder of KL Sogo Starz Studio (a children’s play centre) at the 7th floor of Sogo Shopping Complex. On 1st March 2009, we hosted the Taman Megah Home (PPKKCTM) with 15 children & 3 caregivers. This event was well supported by 6 Rotarians and their families. On this occasion, our Club sponsored the food cost with receipts of RM125.17.

Then on 10th May 2009, we were proud to host the House of Joy, who sent their 15 children & 2 caregivers, again at Starz Studio. This occasion was well attended by 6 Rotarians and their families. For this event, the food cost was RM151.55 with receipts provided. Hence for these 2 parties, the total cost for was RM276.72 both parties at Starz Studio.

Our Club wishes to record its deepest appreciation to the staff of Palace of the Golden Horses (and PP Stuart Pack) plus the staff of Sogo Starz Studio (and Ms Carol Lee) for their kind efforts, time and contribution of premises in making a difference to these children. We are grateful to the management of Ti-Ratana, PPKKCTM and House of Joy for bringing their children to our organized activities.

Lastly, our Community Service committee would like to thank all those Rotarians who attended the 3 different parties and really interacted with the children from Ti-Ratana, Taman Megah and House of Joy.
